The top up is done straight to your phone account no need for scratch cards hence conserving the environment due to the reduced use of paper.

For every 20,000 scratch cards not used we save a tree.

The potential savings of trees by the industry is 25,000 trees a year, based on current projected volumes. However, actual recharge volumes continue to grow impacting more trees.

We need to be sensitive about the environmental dangers resulting from deforestation due to trees cut down to make paper that will eventually make scratch cards.

We are keen to work towards reducing the number of scratch cards that we use to top up our phones and the resulting impact of improper disposal of used scratch cards as well as the plastic wrapping that comes with a number of cards.

We have taken strategic steps to eliminate use of paper based airtime recharge vouchers which contribute to environmental degradation.

May being the National Tree Planting season we are happy to play our part in environmental conservation through avoidance of the destruction of trees that would help avert some of the natural disasters due to wanton deforestation.

The introduction of Eneza platform which eliminates the use of scratch cards will go a long way in curbing the use of paper and encouraging recycling of what has been used.

We are targeting to reduce the total top up using scratch cards on our network by 50 per cent by December 2009.

We will also spearhead the collection and recycling of used mobile phone scratch cards which complements the launch of the green top up system that is user friendly.
